In spite of its bird-like appearance, the golduck is actually a large aquatic mammal. The body and the broad tail of the golduck is covered with dense, blue fur that traps a layer of insulating air to keep the animal warm, while its tail is used for the storage of fat reserves. The fur is waterproof, and the texture is akin to that of a seal. It has powerful webbed feet and a large, rubbery snout. The webbing is more significant on the front feet and is folded back when walking on land. Adult Golducks tend to walk on their knuckles in a similar fashion to apes, though they can also walk with an upright bipedal gait when in lax circumstances
